We want to share a customer comment with you because it really meant a lot to us. A very nice woman Carmen has been a Customer of ours over the past few years. Carmen lives in a Cottage on Queen Anne in Seattle and follows our blog. We were so excited to help her refurnish her dining room. She picked out a large bamboo floor mat, a roll top desk, black round pedestal table and the two chairs seen in the picture below. We also refinished her antique chairs in a shabby white finish and burlap seats. They are seen below also.

Greetings from Poppyseeds

We have been really busy around the shop. The chimney recently had a little sprucing up.
Furniture, furniture & MORE furniture has been coming and going! We have sold two chair sets with these darling reproduction of German Grain Sacks. We think they turned out pretty fantastic. More chairs are in the works!
Fun table #4 just arrived at the shop and is ready for a new home.

This shabby black roll top desk is a great piece that just arrived. I LOVE that you can work away and then just roll down to top to 'hide' it all!! I need a roll top on a few other pieces of furniture in my home..... :o)

Julie has been busy restyling rooms. We are loving this new display using plum & white.

New jewelry just arrived including these awesome cuffs!

Hello Again!

We wanted to share some pictures with you from our Outdoor Flea Market that was last Saturday. The weather was perfect and we had a great group of vendors to share the day with us. The signs below are going to be available at Poppyseeds. They are painted locally and the artist uses recycled barn wood.

(the Nude Beach sign was the first to go :o) Who knew!!? )

We were so happy to welcome Ronda of Sadie Lane Antique Treasures . Ronda has some awesome painted furniture and she was showing off her Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The finishes were fantastic.

A darling white chandelier she sold!

Lots of fun home decor ideas.

Ronda's space was full of goodies! You can find her things at Sassafrass & Co. in Lakewood ~ Just West of Smokey Point.

A sweet old typewriter with scrabble tile inspiration!

We are trying to grow of selection of vintage Cowboy boots but they keep walking out the door!

The Hildebrands of Willow Creek Creations joined us again!

A new vendor was Vaughn Stilling with his silk screened t's.

Minda has some really cool vintage finds. She is really well know for her fun vintage fabric. She had a bunch of vintage furniture, and decor. We loved having her at Poppyseeds for the day.

Outdoor Flea Market

We had a great day last Saturday at our first Flea Market of the season. Thanks so much to a great group of vendors and to all of the customers who came out to support local business.

What's New!!

We have been busy restyling the rooms for spring.

We just love this darling white round Antique Eastlake Table paired with shabby white ladder back chairs. (as I am typing this, Julie called from the shop to inform me this set of chairs just sold)

We had an amazing time at Ruffles and Rust hosted by Come Junk with Us in Monroe. It was a great show with such an incredible group of vendors. We took this photo of our booth Thursday after getting all set up.... Thanks so much to everyone who came out. It was fun to see familiar faces from the shop and also meet a whole lot of new ones!

2011 Outdoor Flea Market Schedule

Each Spring/Summer since we opened in May 2008 we have hosted outdoor markets at Poppyseeds. We are really excited to announce the dates for 2011.

May 14th, June 18th , July 23rd and August 20th. Outdoor Flea Markets are held on Saturdays and hours are from 10am-4pm. We are currently accepting applications for our Markets. Spaces are 10' x 10' and are just $20 for the day.

Snowy at Poppyseeds!

We have been busy at Poppyseeds getting ready for our annual Holiday Open House.

December 3rd & 4th

10:30am-8pm

We will be having goodies and coffee and lots of free raffles!

We are really looking forward to having beautiful bouquets and centerpieces made by a local company - Twig and Vine . Deanna, owner of Twig and Vine is making some very special pieces including evergreens, berries, herbs and fresh flowers!! Here are a few pictures of her work.

Deanna uses many locally grown flowers and greens.

Plan to pick up your holiday flowers at Poppyseeds!! Fresh bouquets and centerpieces will be ready Friday, December 3rd!! These would make great host/hostess gifts.

We had just received an order of these darling new pillows to take to the show. We just have two left!!

We were ready for the crowds! So many people came out Friday Night. There was a line out the door. Thank you so much to everyone who did!!

We had another smaller area directly across from our booth that we filled with pink, black and tons of accessories.

The venue was perfect for a vintage show.

Next UP.......

We are so excited that just next weekend we are participating in such a fun show in Western Washington. We have been busy sanding, priming and painting a ton of shabby furniture, ordering new handbags, scarves and jewelry & home decor! There are 50 other vendors participating in this show.

There are a limited amount of tickets for Friday Nights - Early Shopping and Bloggers/Facebook Fan Ball. Poppyseeds has tickets available for purchase. You can come in to the shop or give us a call and pay with credit over the phone and we can mail them to you!

Customers have been asking about Friday Nights Events - There will be Giveaways and Door Prizes (you must be present to win). Vendors and Customers CAN dress in Vintage Clothes... You do not have to. You do not have to have a blog or a shop to attend. Friday Night is going to be a really fun night where you can bring your friends, or come and meet new friends who love shopping, and love vintage.

Saturday the show runs from 9am-4pm. Admission is $8. We have $3. off coupons at Poppyseeds. You can stop by and pick yours up, or give us a call and we can drop them in the mail for you.

There will be a couple of AMAZING - classes taught by Beth Evans-Ramos of Living a Greener Life

She will be teaching a necklace and bracelet class. You can find more information and how to register on Come Junk With Us

Time Flies When You're Having Fun!

We hosted our last Outdoor Flea Market of the season at Poppyseeds last Saturday. The weather was perfect and we had a great group of vendors to spend the day with. Here are a few pictures from the day!

We have been super busy at the store. It has been a great summer and we cannot believe it is already August. We have so many new pieces to show you! The small antique hutch above is waiting for hardware! We just ordered a bunch of antique inspired hardware to now carry at the shop. We will put pictures up as soon as they arrive..... Ruby Red & Amber glass are just a couple!!

These pictures are from out May outdoor Flea Market - It is hard to imagine rain and cold weather on a day like today! The northwest is having a HEAT WAVE.... for us it is pretty hot - almost 90 degrees today.
We have been busy getting the shop stocked full of fun new things and planning on having a bunch of great vendors for the July 17th Market. We are looking forward to having Wendi of Trendi Wendi back selling her FAB-u-lous handmade headbands, bobby pins, brooches and NEW cuff bracelets! Everything she makes is so DARN cute.

Also joining us again is Mary E. Trimble Local Author. Mary will be signing copies of her books from 10am-4pm inside Poppyseeds!

Our friend Cheri of Trumpeter Antiques built this beautiful arbor trellis for us at Poppyseeds. Cheri and Patty installed it yesterday. They worked so hard, digging in the dirt/clay and mixing and pouring their own concrete. (this picture shows extra lumber underneath to keep it level until cement set)

It was a busy weekend with new additions including a wardrobe change!

Julie has been busy at the shop restyling each room for Spring. The front room is bright with buttery yellows, cream and black. It gives the room such a fresh clean look.

May 1st, 2010 Poppyseeds Outdoor Flea Market

We started out the day with some rain..and more rain..... It was a sure sign of North Westerners' The Vendors just started setting up - 'Business as Usual' !! Vendors quickly got set up and ready for business at 10am. Here are a some of the vendors. I apologize for not getting everyone!!

We are so happy that Fay Mafnas of Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow will be a vendor at our Flea Market this Saturday, May 1st, from 10am - 4pm.

Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow is a brick and mortar shop located on 271st Street in downtown Stanwood. Owner, Fay sells eco-friendly and fair trade products. Fay loves our community and is offering products manufactured by companies that pay living wages and don't use child laborers.

Her store is filled with new, recycled, and vintage items. Fay makes it easy for us to shop and vote with our wallets while supporting our earth.

Debi and Bob have transformed one of their barns into a 'Vintage Seasonal Market' and they will be open one weekend each season. Extreme Makeover - Chair Edition

I am a sucker for makeovers. Don't you just love seeing before and afters? I am terrible at always capturing the befores... Julie had told me about a set of chairs she found at the Silvana Mercantile. There were definitely a diamond in the rough. She saw the possibilities...

Supporting The Camano Island Library

Recently our Landlord Myron asked Julie and I to paint a potting bench he made to be donated to an upcoming auction to support the Camano Island Library. The Friends of the Library need to raise $20,000 each year to keep the library open.

The Auction will be held on Saturday, March 20th, 2010 from 5pm-9:30pm.

Here is the finished product! Myron came to pick it up yesterday. He used peg board on each side of the old barn window, and added hooks to hand garden tools.

The bench is even complete with a GARDEN pale! We think it turned out pretty cute. Get your tickets for the Auction Today! This darling potting bench can be yours.

Meet our Landlord Myron - aka Mayor of Sidley Lake

We would like you to introduce you to our landlord Myron. Yesterday we were lucky to receive a tug boat tow rope from his collection. Myron thinks this would be a perfect gift for someones sweetheart on Valentines Day. We think this 60' rope would make a nice swagged fence or beach decor (not sure if it is appropriate for Valentines Day however.......)

You can expect to see more of Myron's treasures showing up throughout the year. There is rumor of a darling red pump organ and a vintage soda fountain... Stay tuned!!

Someone's Trash is Someone's Treasure.....
Here is a look at the barn where our treasure was waiting to be torn down.... Yeah.. This old barn is coming down next week. Over the weekend we went on a rescue mission!!

This is what we found! It is a booth from ol' Clide's Tavern in Stanwood's West Side. The building was torn down in the 60's and is now the location of Stanwood's' Bank of America. My Father-in-Law salvaged this booth.

This is the booth before we cleaned it up!!

It was covered in dust, and dirt from the past 50 years!

And here it is now!! It is such a fun piece to use for display at the shop! It has a light and a bell!

It is being rewired this week.

We brought in this old door and added magnetic, chalk board panels for a fun addition!

Lots of New Goodies!

We had such a busy weekend. This is one of the new pieces that arrived! It is a darling antique Hoosier cabinet. Complete with two large drawers for flour and sugar, two cutting board, two drawers and the glass hutch top. This is such a darling piece and would be perfect for any shabby and chic, cottage decor.

Here is a little clue....This amazing piece that just arrived. Any ideas on what this might be?

It is about 5 1/2 feet tall and 12 feet long in total!

We are not very good at keeping secrets so here is another sneak peak!
We are working on getting this amazing piece of Stanwood's' history cleaned up and rewired!
It was rescued this weekend from my Father-in-laws barn!

Farewell

Julie had spent the weekend pulling the orange out of the front room (except for the darling orange Poppyseeds paper banner Debi Ward Kennedy had made for us - see above :0) )and adding new pieces including this black pedestal table and the gorgeous antique blue velvet sofa seen below. Fall has Arrived at Poppyseeds!

Yesterday Debi Ward Kennedy of RETREAT transformed Poppyseeds into Fall! The front room is overflowing with black, orange and cream.

A rather large new addition is the CHIC french sofa. A long story - with a very happy ending! This beautiful sofa originally appeared at Haley's Cottage French Flea Market and was sold - long story short it was put up for sale again and we were able to snag it!

Our locally made soy candles have been restocked and are ready to fill your home with wonderful
new aromas, including: Carmel Apple, Banana Nut Bread, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Cranberry Marmalade & Key Lime Pie! They smell delicious and burn so clean!

Check out the Party room filled with Cupcake linens including tablecloths, aprons and towels sets!

French Flea Market at Haley's Cottage

This is picture of us at Haley' Cottage French Flea Market show yesterday. It was a perfect day for an outdoor flea market! For those of you who have not been to Haley's Cottage Haley's Cottage you MUST go! It the the most beautiful store filled with gorgeous things. Haley's has beautiful bedding, jewelry, furniture, framed art, Rendezvous Candles, lighting and SO much more! You absolutely must see this place! We cannot thank Cindy, Owner of Haley's enough and her daughters Heather and Hailey. They were great hosts.

Debi and Bob of RETREAT pulled out all of the stops for this show! Their booth was gorgeous. Check out their blog for beautiful pictures of their display. We cannot wait because they are bringing more of their goodies to Poppyseeds this week! YEAH!!!! This is Patricia and John. Patricia's business is called Tippy Stockton and she creates "chic jewels for urban chicks". Her tent was filled with her one of a kind creations. I love the turquoise/aqua she uses! We will see them next month as they are going to be at the Funky Junk Sisters show in Puyallup.

Swap Meet Photos!

We had a great time on Saturday at our August Swap Meet. The grass at Poppyseeds was filled with Amazing things. We had great Vendors who we are hoping to see back in September!! Our traffic was impacted by the Hwy. 532 overpass being closed for the weekend!

We love how she paired aqua and black on this table set!

This is Fay's Space! She had some very fun things - including butterfly nets that my Boys had to have. They have been very busy catching grasshoppers ever since!

Furniture Fair at Poppyseeds!

We are super excited to have RETREAT at Poppyseeds this weekend. Bob and Debi of RETREAT are setting up a huge tent in the parking lot and filling it with their amazing one of a kind creations. For three days only, July 31, August 1 & 2, you can buy directly from the Dealers! You will be so inspired by all of their beautiful things!

You cannot miss this event!

It is not a coincidence that the Stanwood Camano Fair is this weekend at the Fair grounds. The Stanwood Camano Fair is an old fashioned country fair.

It's a Beautiful Day!

Sorry for the delay in posting! It is just not the same without our computer. We are keeping our fingers crossed it will be back on Monday!! In the meantime we have been very busy. Last weekend we had a blast at the Lavender Hills Farm Festival in Marysville. I WILL be posting some pictures of our booth there hopefully next week.

Poppyseeds is filled to the brim with new things including new vintage inspired linens. Lots of fun fresh colors and patterns. If you love cupcakes you will love our new tablecloths, aprons, towel sets and gift cards! We also have filled our front room with hot pink, black, cream and chandeliers! It is super glam and we love the way everything turned out. We also have a new line of soy candles that are incredible.

Our dear Friends from RETREAT , Debi and Bob are in Battleground, WA this weekend at the Barn House Boys Show. You must check out what Bob and Debi have been up to. Read the story and see the incredible pictures on the Barn House Boys Blog. How fun are they!!

Also this Saturday July 18th is our next Swap Meet.

Good Times!

Two weeks ago we were just getting home from our weekend on the road! Poppyseeds was one of the vendors at the Funky Junk Sisters show. We had a great weekend and met so many wonderful people. Here are just a few of the vendors who we were fortunate enough to work with.

Table for Four Please!

This adorable round antique table just arrived at Poppyseeds. It has been painted cottage white and is very shabby! We have paired it with four very shabby solid wood chairs, two red, and two blue. Chairs sold separately.

Phase ... Fantastic!!

Today Debi Ward Kennedy came to restyle another room at Poppyseeds. Furniture, decor and lighting has been perfectly paired together for French European Themed Decor. Check out this beautiful Beveled Mirror Antique English Vanity!

Elegantly displayed creams and blacks.
The Jacobean sideboard is a fun place to display a few handbags. In the back ground is a foot board for an antique bed. Displaying it on top of the sideboard really allows you to see the beautiful detail!

The copper, wine cases and bottles have now been displayed on the
Duncan Phyfe serving table!

Redesign = Results

For several months we have had a beautiful french provincial style oval table and four chairs. This set was painted white and distressed in all the right places. The seats we recovered in a fun turquoise beachy fabric. When the table first arrived we displayed it in Poppyseeds entry room, covering it with jewelry as see here......

Then we moved it to the back room and paired it with a shabby old wood trunk covering it with purses, books, plates, lighting and a wreath. Can you find the little beauty here???.... Maybe not.

When Debi Ward Kennedy came to our retail design rescue, She pulled that table out - paired it with on other complimenting color - RED - And displayed it with out drowning it with other products. Once the table was displayed by the bright window - without everything overpowering it, the table sold the next day! And we had to start a waiting list because more than one person wanted it!

Customers can see our products now. You are able to visualize our furniture and accessories in YOUR home. It also helps us direct people to the right space now based on their wants and needs.

It was a Beautiful Day!

We had a great time in the sun today for the second Swap Meet of the season. Many people have requested more so we are planning for next month, again on the third Saturday of the month - June 20th! So mark your calendars and really you don't want to miss out!

I had wanted to share a couple of pictures from the last makeover at Poppyseeds. Phase 3 - the Beach Cottage Room. As you know Debi Ward Kennedy, Retail Designer has been assisting us. On Thursday afternoon for just about four hours she redesigned this room for us. Here are couple of pictures.

We really like how the ol' Hot Point Automatic oven is now under the old cupboards. It is really gives us a nice place for displaying things and makes it seem more like a real old cottage kitchen!

The colors are so bright and fun, and with a day like today it really makes us ready for the beach! Come in today and check out our 'Beach Cottage' Room at Poppyseeds!

Swap Meet in the Sun!!

Phase Two - Poppyseeds Style!!

Last week the outside of Poppyseeds was dramatically restyled by Debi Ward Kennedy. One of the most noticeable changes is the signage. Deb has redone all of Poppyseeds signs. The task of repainting the chimney seemed impossible. We so very much needed Deb's expertise - she is a Retail Designer and is amazingly talented. Instead of the spools being spread out - She grouped them together, coordinated the colors with our logo and even 'turned' some into Poppies! Here is a Picture of Debi creating a poppy!

She carried the poppies into all of our signage! We love how they turned out!

She painted the doors the same colors as the spools and poppies on the logo to tie it all together!

We cannot wait to see phase three!!

Move that Bus!!

We felt like we needed a huge crowd (and Ty Pennington would have been nice!) cheering this weekend at Poppyseeds on Saturday night after the front room had an entire MAKEOVER from The Debi Ward Kennedy . It has been a super exciting weekend for us. Here is the story, as many of you know Debi Ward Kennedy has a room at Poppyseeds that she fills with all of her creations. If you have ever been in her space at Poppyseeds or Faded Elegance you know what I mean - They are incredible. So, on Thursday we met with her. Deb is a retail designer, speaker, writer and we are so grateful to call her our Friend! She is offering her services to us in making over everything at Poppyseeds. Her artistic abilities are beyond anything I can tell you. You really have to see for yourself. Her blog is an amazing resource so check it out.

On Saturday she literally moved every piece of furniture and fixture in our front room. Here is the BEFORE picture:

And here are a couple of AFTER shots!

Can you believe the difference?! The large Antique hutch was moved to the corner. The glass jewelry case was moved over by the windows and is now filled with all of the jewelry. And the bed and sideboard have been replaced with an elegant 1930's Duncan Phyfe table and chair set painted and totally glamed out with black faux fur seats! Just by moving the larger pieces and coordinating colors and arranging the lighting - It gives this room a complete makeover and we could not be happier.

Deb is assisting us in recreating Poppyseeeds brand image by redesigning our entire store. You will have to stay tuned as the next transformation is outside. Here is a little clue! Out with the OLD - We cannot wait for the NEW!!
